Merck initiated its business in China in 1900, distributing high-purity reagents via the ports of Shaighai, Guangzhou and Tianjin. And one hundred years later, Merck is now represented in the most developed cities in China. The century has witnessed Merck’s development in China: in 1995, Merck’s delegates were dispatched to explore China’s market and representative offices were set up in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou gradually after 1996. In 1997, Merck (Shanghai) Trading Co., Ltd, a solely invested and registered international company, was established in Pudong Wai Gao Qiao Free Trade Zone of Shanghai by Merck KGaA and is now in full operation under the name of Merck Chemicals (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. To provide technical support to Chinese customers, 2007 saw the founding of Merck Chemicals (Shanghai) Song-Jiang Site. Since then, Merck Chemicals has got a comprehensive processing site with functions of processing, storage, research and development in China.
